How to Kill Aliens 101

Due to some technical issues with file storage (entire library erased) and GameMaker itself, we decided to move our entire project onto our personal laptops. Because of these issues, we lost about a day or so worth of coding, and sprite work. (Sprites are the same size as they appear in-game. The boss is close to 100 times larger.)

When planning, I  thought a top down shooter would be difficult to do if we used human players, so it was decided that spaceships and aliens would be easier and much more visually stimulating.

Nonetheless, we kept working enough to the point of having an aesthetically pleasing basic tech demo that plays much like the final version we envisioned would have — With a ton of features missing that would have gone into a extra day’s worth of polish.

Its difficult, brutal, and plays as smoothly as we initially wanted. Our game menu works as we intended, even if we had to remove some features due to time constraints. There is no current goal, or way to do anything other than move and stare at our giant boss monster.

We also wanted to have distinctive sprites for example, it’s clear which way the player ship is facing due to it’s pointed tip design.

We hope you enjoy our tech demo, you can try it Here!
