Fishing Report

Locki with a 104kg blue fin tuna

Trout: Anglers have recently been coming back with some good fishing reports from Woods Lake. Shallow diving hard body minnows such as Liquid Gold and DUO have been doing the trick as well as Berkely T-Tail soft plastics. The trout have been very aggressive and willing to grab most lures. This is due to them being in spawning mode. As the water temperatures are starting to increase, trout should move onto the weed beds.

Whiting: A few good reports of whiting off Kingston Beach, Blackmans Bay and Bellerive. Try anchor up over sandy bottom and start throwing a bit of burley in and you should be into them in no time. 6-8lb leader, a small running sinker, long shank hook and a tiny bit of squid is all that’s needed. The bites are often very subtle so a sensitive rod will help.

Tuna: Storm Bay is loaded with bait at the moment. Fifty metres has been a popular depth among local anglers. Halco Lazer Pros and small skirted lures in redbait colours have been doing the job.

Calamari: North West Bay is still producing good amounts of calamari. Although they are mostly smaller specimens, there are some larger ones around. Electrona, Howden, Snug and Coningham have all been fishing well. Hot tip: Try get your jig as close to the weed as you can!

Flathead: Unfortunately the flathead have been very quiet. Hopefully as the water warms up they will come on the bite.

Bream: Browns River has also been fishing well around the river mouth. Local anglers fishing with bait, soft plastics or vibes have all been cleaning up on a high tide.
