Overwatch Game Review

Overwatch is a popular team based, first person shooter. There are seven types of game modes available in Overwatch, with 4 available in regular competitive or quick play: Assault, Control, Escort, and Hybrid. Capture the Flag, Deathmatch and Elimination are all available from the Arcade or the Game Browser.

There are currently 31 playable heroes in Overwatch available for play no matter the map or game mode. However in custom matches you can restrict the playable heroes to only certain ones instead of all 31.

Fun factor: If you are new to first person shooters, this game is a pretty good starting point. It will help you gain coordination with your mouse and keyboard. Fast game play creates a perfect environment for improvement, you must build muscle memory fast to be able to win. Competitive is not so fun if you lose, but quick play is fun whether you win or lose because it doesn’t go towards “important” statistics.

It is a very fun game. Especially playing with friends on competitive matches. You can find your own matches, or create your own custom matches to suit what you are looking for. Custom matches add a world of possibilities when it comes to entertainment and enjoyment.

Controls & Game play: The controls and game play are both smooth, smoothness of the game really depends on the specs of the computer. The controls are straightforward and easy to learn.

  • Crouch : Left Control
  • Jump : Space
  • Ability 1 : Left Shift
  • Ability 2: E
  • Ability 3: Q (Ultimate Ability) has to charge up from 0 to 100%
  • Primary fire & secondary fire : Left and right mouse.
  • Quick Melee : V
  • Reload : R
  • Next & Previous Weapon : Scroll up & down

Most of heroes are easy to learn but hard to master, if you have difficulty with grasping the concept of the heroes. You can always use Google to help you understand the different abilities and play styles for each hero. There is also in game tutorial and pre-set binds that will explain the hero for you.

The highly competitive side of this game makes it perfect for veteran FPS players.

In competitive mode, there are eight ranking divisions. (% = worldwide population)

  • Bronze (8%)
  • Silver (21%)
  • Gold (32%)
  • Platinum (25%)
  • Diamond (10%)
  • Master (3%)
  • Grandmaster (1%)
  • Top 500 (Top 500 in certain region, US, AU, EU)

As you can see some ranks are more obtainable than others. All depending on personal potential and skill.

Graphics: This game has a nice clean cartoon like style. It keeps the game looking simple and allows colors to blend perfectly. Each map and character are defined by its detailed appearance. Many people who play the game appreciate the detail and time that has gone into the polished heroes and detailed maps.

Sound: The sound in Overwatch is good. The footsteps of enemies is sometimes off putting if you are wearing headphones. When a hero uses an ability or triggers their ultimate. You can clearly hear where and which hero has used their ability. The audio is high quality and reliable

Replayability: I have over 800 hours on Overwatch, so I would say it has replay ability. Especially for competitive play. You have goals you can slowly progress to, with team work and good communication. If you receive a loss it often boosts motivation to get to the next rank, by trying your hardest.

In summary this game is very enjoyable for all types of people. With having 31 playable heroes, it makes it very customized for every person. There is a hero for everyone. Whether it be a damage class, support class, or tank class.
