2D Retro Platformer

This is my retro-style, 2D platformer game. The gameplay is fully fledged out with smooth movement and many gameplay mechanics, such as items that alter the character, keys and doors, pipes for fast travel, enemies and spikes etc. As well as this, the visual style of the game is also very important, so I designed all the sprites in a retro, game-boy style to bring the game together.

PLAY GAME BELOW:

Tutorial level, teaching the player movement and progression.

The game consists of a tutorial, teaching you basic movement, followed by 3 levels of exponential difficulty, introducing the player to new mechanics each door they pass through. The levels are designed with the intention to be explored, but still try to direct the player for progressions sake, with simple warnings of things ahead (such as warning signs on the walls), and secret rooms that can be found throughout the game if the player strays off the path.

Secret room in the ground revealing that the ground is part of the world at all.
Level 2, the game introduces pipes that transport the player from one to another, as well as the difficulty getting harder (weirder levels and more spikes!).

Improvements for later updates should involve the mechanics being introduced more clearly and further animation to add to coherent movement (especially with pipes).
