Hook: Escape C Block is a horror game set in C Block, Hobart College in the year 2023.
Objective: Players must attempt to escape C Block by using different objects spread throughout the map, whilst avoiding the murderous monster.
Lore: The year is 2023 and a teenager decides to sneak into the school after-hours, in search for missing homework that is due the next day. The teenager accidentally locks themselves inside of the building and tries to find a way out. Little do they know that they aren’t the only person wandering the school corridors.
Evaluation & Reflection:
I’m quite proud of how I setup the movement mechanics since I had to create it 4 times; Adding a flashlight was a small but clean mechanic; Setting up the AI to follow the player was impressive in my opinion; The unfinished map, which did resemble C Block to an extent. I did enjoy working on this game as I learnt some things from Unreal Engine and would most definitely be interested in creating more projects in my own time.

Some of the problems that I faced were:
– The movement speed was slower than the movement animations, but I managed to lower the speed on the player to make it look better.
– Map was inaccurate, so I recorded videos of the building and made the maps architecture closer to the real thing.
– A few more things were fixed but they weren’t as major.
Some problems were not very easy to solve, such as:
– The map error which gave me 1060 errors (I had to restart).
– One time the map did not share from the previous day’s work, and I had to redo it.
– The player animations didn’t always work well with the camera, but it wasn’t that bad, so I left it untouched.
In hindsight, I should have worked on the game more after school, and worked on different mechanics each afternoon, but instead I just winged it. It would have also been more efficient if I knew exactly how the game would work as well as gameplay would look like. I should have planned it out to make the idea more concrete.
References: Escape C Block‘s idea was from the game Granny (2017), developed by DVloper. The map was an imitation of the Hobart College C Block building.
